Homeownership Preservation Foundation Comments on Launch of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Homeownership Preservation Foundation (HPF), an independent national nonprofit dedicated to helping distressed homeowners navigate financial challenges and avoid mortgage foreclosure through its Homeowner’s HOPE™ Hotline at 888-995-HOPE™, released the following statement in response to today’s official launch of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB):
“Today’s launch of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is a major milestone in American consumers’ efforts to take stronger control over their financial lives, and we congratulate the many people who came together to develop and launch this important consumer resource,” said Colleen Hernandez, CEO of the Homeownership Preservation Foundation.
HPF is supporting the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Consumer Response process by providing counseling and assistance to homeowners who contact CFPB with mortgage- and foreclosure-specific issues and complaints, including those relating to possible mortgage scams. HPF’s network of HUD-approved counselors have already provided such services, at no charge, to more than five million financially challenged homeowners through the national Homeowner’s HOPE™ Hotline (888-995-HOPE™).
Ms. Hernandez added: “We are proud to support CFPB on its important mission to protect and preserve the financial interests of American consumers, and we look forward to continuing to provide much-needed assistance to consumers struggling with mortgage challenges.”
