Statement by Colleen Hernandez, CEO, Homeownership Preservation Foundation Regarding the National PSA Campaign to Raise Awareness of the Making Home Affordable Program

Unveiled Today by the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF THE TREASURY, U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT and the Ad Council

July 28, 2010 – “The Homeownership Preservation Foundation (HPF), which was designated as the Making Home Affordable Program call-center in 2009, is pleased to be able to assist the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as the call to action for these timely and very important PSAs,” said Colleen Hernandez, CEO of the Homeownership Preservation Foundation.

HPF created and operates the Homeowner’s HOPE Hotline, 1-888-995-HOPE. The PSAs direct homeowners to visit Making Home Affordable.gov or call 1-888-995-HOPE (4673) to see if they may be eligible for assistance to make their mortgage payments more affordable and to understand options they may have to avoid foreclosure.

“It is estimated that there are five million homeowners across America who are three months behind in their mortgage payments. We at HPF want to encourage all homeowners who are struggling with their payments, for whatever reason, to reach out for help and call the Homeowner’s HOPE Hotline, where they can find out if they are eligible for MHA assistance and learn about other free resources that may be available to them, including financial counseling. Through foreclosure prevention counseling, we can help homeowners determine the best way to stabilize or resolve their financial situation,” said Hernandez.
